During the late nineteen sixties and
early seventies my working studio was situated on the banks of the Thlamalakane
river outside Maun in the Okavango Swamps in Botswana. This carved wood
panel brings back memories of my discovery of the simple and direct stylization
of the wood carvings of the swamp tribesmen. Their basic visual approach
influenced my own style greatly at that time.
